Strawberry Oat Mylk

Omg is this ever good. My friend Britany, founder of @wholeonlife created this creamy simple oat mylk recipe and suggested adding fresh berries to really elevate it. I love drinking this after a Pilates class for protein or sipping on it in between meals.

Ingredients:

1 cup rolled oats (gluten-free if GF // or sub steel-cut oats*)

4 cups of water (use less water for thicker, creamier milk!)

1 tbsp date sugar ( optional: for sweetness or 1 tbsp maple syrup or 1 pitted date)

dash of pink salt

1/3 cup your choice of fresh strawberries berries (or any fresh berry of your choice)

Optional:  Add more sweetener to make the milk sweeter

Add 2-3 tbsp cocoa powder for “chocolate milk”

Instructions:

In a blender, add oats, water, salt and any additional add-ins (optional). Blend on high until smooth. Blend for about 30sec-1 minute. DO NOT OVER BLEND as it can make the oat milk slimy in texture.

Scoop out a small sample with a clean spoon to test flavour/sweetness. If not sweet enough, add your choice of sweetener.  And repeat the above step.

Use a strainer over a bowl and pour the liquid. Use a spoon to throughly squeeze out the excess. If you choose to use a cheesecloth, you will need to double strain.

Transfer the “oat milk” into a sealed container/jar and refridgerate. Keep in the refrigerator up to 5 days (sometimes more). Shake well & enjoy cold.

*Do not heat or it will thicken in texture. This “oat milk” can be used in smoothies, granola, baked goods and can be enjoyed alone with a dash of cinnamon.

Enjoy!
